A Festival with Stance

Liedermacherei (singer-songwriter tradition) is a tradition with substance in Germany: Hannes Wader, Reinhard Mey, Bettina Wegner, Konstantin Wecker — voices that connect pop and politics. Exactly in this tradition stands the Liedermacher-Festival Kirchdornberg, which was launched in 2025 by Dorfkrug Kirchdornberg e.V. and was immediately sold out. Hannes Wader himself took over the patronage — a knighthood for a festival in its second edition.

The Location: Kirchdornberg

Kirchdornberg is a district of Bielefeld in the Dornberg district, on the western outskirts of the city. Here, genuine village structures with a church square, inn, and old school still exist. The festival takes place on the Kirchplatz of the Peterskirche — one of the most beautiful village ensembles in western Bielefeld, at Am Tie 17. The Romanesque Peterskirche forms the backdrop for the stage; wooden benches and standing areas are arranged around it.

Patron Hannes Wader

The fact that Hannes Wader, one of the great figures of identification in the German singer-songwriter scene, has taken over the patronage is a political statement. Wader, born in 1942, has lived in the region for decades and has long supported the commitment to curated Liedermacherei. His program design is: political, poetic, personal — not pure entertainment, but content.

The Organizer

The Dorfkrug Kirchdornberg e.V. operates the former inn of the same name, which now functions as a volunteer-run cultural center. Concerts, readings, regulars' tables, theater performances — the Dorfkrug is the cultural heart of Kirchdornberg. The Liedermacher-Festival is its most ambitious format.

What awaits in 2026

The festival takes place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 5 PM to 9 PM. The artist selection is curated by the association's board; songwriters can submit applications to [email protected]. Four to six acts are expected on two stages, with breaks offering drinks from the Dorfkrug, regional snacks, and an audience that wants to listen, not just drink.
