Traditional Kirchweih on Nieder-Olm's Rathaus-Vorplatz with clubs, wine, and marquee atmosphere
The Nieder-Olmer Kerb is a classic Kirchweih festival in Rheinhessen, whose roots go back to the consecration of the local parish church. Over the centuries, a secular folk festival has developed from the religious occasion, which today counts among the most important dates in the festival calendar of the Nieder-Olm administrative district.
The venue is the central Rathaus-Vorplatz, which becomes a festival ground for four days. A Festzelt (festival marquee) forms the convivial center, alongside classic amusement rides such as carousels and smaller roller coasters, as well as stalls selling candied almonds, cotton candy, and crêpes. The local clubs – Carnival Club, Fire Department, Sports Club, Marksmen's Club – serve Rhenish-Hessian specialties, bratwurst, steaks, and a rich selection of drinks.
The Nieder-Olm vintners are an integral part of the Kerb. The current vintage wines are served at the wine stands: Riesling, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, and Federweißer. The combination of folk festival and wine culture is typical for Rhenish-Hessian Kerwen and gives the event its special character.
The program follows the tried-and-tested dramaturgy: Opening on Friday with a beer tapping ceremony and welcome by the city leadership, Saturday's main stage with cover bands and party music, Sunday with morning pint and family program, Monday the traditional flea market and a convivial closing. The festival parade on Sunday with clubs, music bands, and floats leads through the city center.
The Nieder-Olmer Kerb is a cross-generational family festival deeply rooted in local identity. Former residents of Nieder-Olm regularly return from all over Germany for this event, meet former schoolmates, and enjoy local food and wines.
The 2026 Kerb follows the proven dramaturgy: Opening on Friday with a beer tapping ceremony, main stage on Saturday, morning pint and parade on Sunday, flea market and family program on Monday, convivial closing on Tuesday.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the city of Nieder-Olm in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
