Traditional Bayerwald Kirta at the Vereinsheim Wilting
Traitsching is a municipality in the Cham district of the Bavarian Forest, located between the district town of Cham and Regen. The municipality includes several hamlets and districts, including Wilting – a small village with active club life. The sports club SV Wilting and the Burschenverein Traitsching share the organization of the annual Kirta, a classic East Bavarian village festival.
Kirta (Upper Palatinate and Lower Bavarian dialect for "Kirchweih" or church consecration festival) is the most important form of festival in the Bavarian Forest and Upper Palatinate during the summer. It dates back to the consecration of the local parish church and has evolved into a two-day village festival with a festival tent, brass band music, Brotzeit, and Kirta-Burschen traditions. In Wilting, the Kirta is jointly organized by the members of SV Wilting and the young men (Burschen) from Traitsching.
The Vereinsheim Wilting serves as the central festival grounds for these two days. A brass band plays in front of and inside the clubhouse, long rows of tables are set up, and festival beer from the tap along with East Bavarian Brotzeit classics like Bratwurst, Wurstsemmel, Obatzda, and Brezn are served. The atmosphere is familiar and non-commercial – not a festival with admission and wristbands, but a classic club festival.
The Kirta in Wilting is an example of the countless small village Kirta celebrations held every summer in the Bavarian Forest. They sustain rural club life, collect donations for the sports department or the Burschen's fund, and serve as a meeting point for generations. Anyone wanting to experience authentic East Bavaria away from the tourist crowds will find themselves in the right place here – and will be rewarded with an unadulterated glimpse into Bayerwald customs.
On Saturday, August 1st, and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, SV Wilting and Burschenverein Traitsching will jointly host the Kirta at the Vereinsheim Wilting. The exact program will be published shortly before the date on the website of the municipality of Traitsching.
The classic program points of a Bayerwald Kirta are expected: beer tapping on Saturday afternoon, brass band music, festival beer, Brotzeit, a morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday, and a convivial end to the festival.
