Traditional autumn Kirchweih on the 3rd weekend of October in the Steigerwald
The Kirchweih Oberscheinfeld takes place every year on the third weekend of October and is one of the key autumn highlights in the Steigerwald district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim. The market town of Oberscheinfeld is located on the edge of the Steigerwald Nature Park, nestled among beech forests and vineyards. Here, the Kirchweih is not just a club or community festival – it is supported by the Kirchweih society, the parish, and the entire village population.
Classic Franconian Kerwa format: festival opening on Thursday, beer tapping, raising of the Kirchweih tree by the Kerwasburschen, tavern evenings with live music. On Sunday, the festive church service, lunch at the tavern, and a festive parade in the afternoon. On Monday, the traditional Kerwa Monday with 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint), auction of dancing rights, and finally the 'Auspflanzen' of the Kirchweih tree.
For those who don't want to wait until autumn to visit Oberscheinfeld: on May 10th, 2026, the traditional Craftsmen, Farmers, and Art Market will take place. Local craftsmen, farmers, and artists will present their products and works in the market square – a spring highlight that supports community life throughout the year.
The market town of Oberscheinfeld has around 1,500 inhabitants and is located in the southern district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, easily accessible via the A3 motorway (Schlüsselfeld exit). With its traditional castle ruins, the late Gothic St. Sebastian Church, and its location between the Steigerwald vineyards and beech forests, the town offers a charming backdrop for a Franconian Kerwa.
As every year on the third weekend of October, the market town of Oberscheinfeld hosts its Kirchweih in the market square. The festival tent and tavern operations run throughout the festival week, with the full stage program concentrated on the weekend, including Sunday service, a festive parade, and a festival evening.
The Craftsmen, Farmers, and Art Market on May 10th, 2026, is a separate event with a market character: local craftsmen showcase their products, farmers from the Steigerwald offer regional goods, and artists exhibit and sell their work.
Oberscheinfeld is located about 35 km west of Nuremberg, near the Steigerwald Nature Park. Take the A3 motorway (Schlüsselfeld exit), then the B470. By train to Markt Bibart, then by bus.
Free. Food and drinks at the tavern and festival tent at usual prices.
