Over 400 costumed figures parade through Heidenheim's pedestrian zone
The Heidenheim Faschingssturm 2026 takes place on Saturday, January 31, in downtown Heidenheim. The event is organized by Schloss Arkaden (the city's central shopping center) in cooperation with the Heidenheim Narrenzünfte (carnival guilds). The format combines a classic Fasnet parade with activities at and in the shopping center, making Heidenheim the carnival center of the Brenz valley for a day.
From 10:00 AM, the first performances by Heidenheim guilds and Guggenmusiken (carnival bands) start at and in Schloss Arkaden, Karlstraße 12. The guilds present themselves at Eugen-Jaekle-Platz and Elmar-Doch-Haus — both central squares in the city center. At 12:00 PM, the actual parade begins. With verve, over 400 costumed figures from Heidenheim and friendly guilds march through the pedestrian zone — a colorful mix of traditional Häs figures, Guggenmusiken, themed floats, and drummers.
After the parade, the festivities continue at Eugen-Jaekle-Platz. DJs play current charts and classics, traditional carnival and Guggen bands take the stage. Mulled wine and punch provide warmth during the often cold January temperatures. Local restaurants offer currywurst, sandwiches, and hearty Schwarzwurst specialties.
Catering is provided by local Heidenheim businesses: Bäckerei Gnaier, Peerless Dine, Genuss Werkstatt, and Metzgerei Schröder. Mulled wine, punch, and non-alcoholic hot drinks are also available.
The carnival tradition in the Brenz valley (Heidenheim, Sontheim, Bopfingen, Aalen) dates back a long way and is part of the Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet culture. The Heidenheim Faschingssturm brings together guilds from the entire district as well as friendly groups from Bavaria (Swabia-Bavaria) and the Ries region.
