"Bavarian China" Celebrates
Dietfurt an der Altmühl has carried the nickname "Bavarian China" for generations — a tradition that culminates in the world-famous Chinesenfasching (Chinese Carnival). In the summer, the Bavarian-Chinese Summer continues this lovingly maintained culture: the city center becomes a Bavarian-Chinese promenade with culinary specialties from both cultures and a varied program.
Three Stages, Two Cultures
The program skillfully plays with contrasts on three stages: Dietfurt brass band music and regional bands meet Far Eastern sounds and traditional dances. Chinese friends from the consulate and the Confucius Institute Munich are also involved, giving the festival a truly intercultural touch. The spectrum ranges from hearty Bavarian brass band music to Chinese music.
The Gaudi Triathlon
The highlight is the Bavarian-Chinese Gaudi Triathlon on Sunday afternoon — a humorous competition that delights young and old and perfectly captures the ironic, tongue-in-cheek character of "Bavarian China." In addition, there are culinary delights, strolling, and socializing in Dietfurt's city center.
Dietfurt in the Altmühltal
Dietfurt is located in the Altmühltal Nature Park on the Main-Danube Canal, surrounded by rocks, forests, and the Altmühltal cycle path. The historic old town with the Chinesenbrunnen (Chinese Fountain) and the Chinese Museum makes the place unique. A visit to the Bavarian-Chinese Summer can be well combined with a bike tour or boat trip in the Altmühltal.
