67th Volksfest in the "Sieben-Täler-Stadt" in the Altmühltal Nature Park
The 7-Täler-Volksfest Dietfurt is one of the most traditional folk festivals in the Oberpfalz region and the Altmühltal Nature Park. The name refers to Dietfurt's location – at the confluence of seven valleys, including Altmühl, Schamhaupten, Töging, Wissing, Mühlbach, and Ottmaringer Tal. 2026 marks the 67th edition – making the Volksfest one of the oldest town festivals in the region.
The festival tent has been managed for years by festival host Friedrich Riemhofer from Riedenburg – a brewer from the traditional Riemhofer Brewery from the neighboring Altmühltal. The Gschrey festival kitchen provides roast chicken, grilled fish, pork knuckles, pretzels, and Lower Bavarian-Upper Palatinate specialties. There is also a covered beer garden directly at the tent entrance – popular for relaxed gatherings and protection from summer thunderstorms, which are not uncommon in the Altmühltal.
Like other Franconian and Upper Palatinate folk festivals, Dietfurt has its own festival queen: the 7-Täler Queen, crowned for a one-year term. She represents the festival and the town on official occasions. The reigning queen can be seen on Instagram (@siebentaelerkoenigin_dietfurt).
The festival grounds on Bahnhofstraße offer an attractive amusement park with dodgems, carousels, a children's train, games, food stalls, and candy stands. For five days, bands and show bands will play in the festival tent – a colorful mix from traditional folk music to Schlager and party bands. The musical program aims to offer something for every taste.
Dietfurt, with around 6,000 inhabitants, is a town in the district of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and lies on the southern edge of the Altmühltal Nature Park. The town is famous for its Chinesenfasching (Chinese Carnival) – Dietfurt citizens have been jokingly called "Bavarian Chinese" since the 17th century, and the date of the carnival is known throughout the region. The 7-Täler-Volksfest is the summer complement to the winter Chinesenfasching. Its location on the Main-Danube Canal and the Altmühl makes Dietfurt a tourist anchor point in the nature park.
The 67th edition in 2026 is confirmed on the official website of the City of Dietfurt and on the tourism portals Naturpark Altmühltal and Herzstück Bayern: July 23rd to 27th. The town cordially invites you to five days of Volksfest – in the festival tent of host Friedrich Riemhofer (Riemhofer Brewery Riedenburg), with Gschrey festival kitchen and a covered beer garden.
The program follows the proven structure: opening parade with clubs and the reigning 7-Täler Queen, beer tapping ceremony, five festival days with daily music program in the festival tent (traditional folk music, party bands, show bands). On the festival grounds, there are classic Volksfest amusement rides – dodgems, children's train, carousels – as well as shooting galleries, candy stands, and food stalls.
Detailed daily and music program will be published by the City of Dietfurt in July on the website.
