Medieval Market with Luther Connection

If you are interested in the history of the Reformation, the Medieval Market Spectacle Kemberg has a special twist: The association Kemberger Lebenszeiten e.V. aims to revive Kemberg's history from the time of Propst Bartholomäus Bernhardi – a close friend of Martin Luther and one of the most important reformers in the region. Kemberg is located in the district of Wittenberg, south of the Luther town, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Market and Spectacle around the Town Church

The venue is Kemberg's church square and market square. For two days – Saturday and Sunday – the center transforms into a medieval market with traders, artisans, and showmen in historical clothing. The opening on Saturday features the procession of market and jugglers and the Kranzaufzug (wreath-lifting ceremony) – a medieval market inauguration ceremony. Throughout the weekend, the Rabenbrüder perform medieval music and entertainment multiple times, the Wittenberger Fanfarenkorps gives a town concert, and the Bruchschmiede offers children's programs and skill games.

Quiet Hours in the Town Church

On Saturday evening, the atmosphere changes: 6 PM chamber music (cello and violin) in the town church, 8 PM dance and Irish folk concert in the market square. Sunday begins with an open-air church service at 9 AM and a subsequent morning prayer – a religious accent that underscores the event's connection to Luther.

Back after a Two-Year Break

After a two-year break, the market spectacle returned in a smaller form in 2025 – the 14th edition took place on July 26/27, 2025. The 15th edition is planned for 2026, likely on the last weekend of July.

Market Spectacle Kemberg — edition 2026

The 15th Medieval Market Spectacle Kemberg will likely take place on the last weekend of July 2026 around the church square and market square. Program structure similar to 2024/2025: market procession, wreath-lifting ceremony, performances by the Rabenbrüder, Wittenberg Fanfare Corps, chamber music in the town church, open-air church service on Sunday morning. Date to be confirmed by the association in spring.

The 15th edition of the market spectacle will continue the tradition revived after the pandemic in 2026. Likely date: last weekend of July (Saturday/Sunday). The association Kemberger Lebenszeiten e.V. supports the festival with a program that has proven successful for years.

A classic medieval market is offered: traders in historical clothing, artisans at work, jugglers and minstrels in the squares around the town church. The Wittenberg Fanfares provide musical splendor, the Rabenbrüder medieval music and theater, and the Bruchschmiede a children's program. The association's connection to Luther gives the festival its character.
