City anniversary, medieval market, and open-air concert in the Steigerwald
The small town of Scheinfeld in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district is celebrating a special anniversary in 2026: the place on the edge of the Steigerwald was first mentioned in a document 1250 years ago. The highlight of the anniversary year is the anniversary weekend from June 19th to 21st, 2026, embedded in an annual program with concerts (Windsbacher Knabenchor, Kellerkommando), comedy (Michl Müller), a ball with a big band, and the traditional Scheinfeld Wood Day.
The weekend is deliberately divided into three parts: On Friday evening, the Franconian band Kellerkommando will play an open-air concert on the outdoor pool's sunbathing lawn – an unusual mix of folk music, rap, and beats. In case of bad weather, the concert will move to the Wolfgang-Graf-Halle.
Saturday is dedicated to the Middle Ages: Starting at 3 PM, the old town around the Stadtsee will transform into a medieval market with craftsmen, costumes, jewelry, leather goods, potters, bird of prey demonstrations, sword school show fights, and the jester Oskar. In the evening, the musicians from Maulfaul will play, followed by a large fire show. Additionally, the consecration of a new votive altar will take place on the Nepomuk meadow.
On Sunday, history meets the present: Starting at 11 AM, the program "Anno dazumal und heute" will feature a livestock market, traditional crafts, regional specialties, and a long table with food inspired by the era around 1900. Games and acrobatics for families will round off the day.
Scheinfeld has around 4,500 inhabitants and sees itself as a "wood and education town." In direct proximity are the Steigerwald Nature Park with its beech forests, Schwarzenberg Castle above the town, and Schwarzenberg Palace. Admission to all events of the anniversary weekend is free.
Embedded in the 2026 anniversary year, the weekend of June 19th to 21st marks the emotional highlight of the 1250-year celebration. The town of Scheinfeld is the organizer in collaboration with clubs, restaurants, and dedicated citizens.
Three venues will be active: the sunbathing lawn of the outdoor pool (concert), the old town with the Stadtsee (medieval market), and the Nepomuk meadow (consecration ceremony, Sunday). In case of rain, the Friday concert will move to the Wolfgang-Graf-Halle.
Scheinfeld is located on the A3 motorway (Schlüsselfeld exit), about 45 minutes from Nuremberg, Würzburg, or Bamberg. By train to Markt Bibart, then take a bus to Scheinfeld. Parking is signposted from the town entrance.
All events of the anniversary weekend are free of charge.
