Village Festival with Ecclesiastical Tradition

The Kirchweih Altenthann is the traditional festival of the municipality of Altenthann. It is celebrated in June and is firmly noted in the regional event calendars. The Kirchweih – as everywhere in Bavaria – dates back to the consecration of the local church and is celebrated on the patron saint's day.

Customs and Sociability

As with the Kirchweihen in the region, the festival combines ecclesiastical tradition with village sociability: a festive church service, festival activities with brass band music, and pleasant get-togethers are at the center. For several days, the Kirchweih is a meeting point for the village community and guests from the surrounding area.

Altenthann is located east of Regensburg in the Bavarian Vorderwald, a hilly, wooded landscape. The municipality belongs to the Donaustauf administrative community. The Kirchweih here is an expression of vibrant village identity, far from large tourist events.
