Summer street festival in the Korntal district centre with the trade association and local clubs
The Korntaler Sommer is the most important summer festival in the Korntal district of Korntal-Münchingen (Ludwigsburg district, Baden-Württemberg state). The organizer is the Korntal Trade and Commerce Association in close cooperation with the Korntal-Münchingen city administration. The concept combines three components: firstly, a street festival with catering stands from local clubs; secondly, an arts and crafts market with creative small art stalls; thirdly, a family program with activities for children.
The main street of the district centre and the adjacent Saalplatz will be closed to traffic during the festival period. The local clubs — music associations, sports clubs, church communities, scouts, fire brigade — will set up their marquees and beer benches on the cleared streets. Each club offers its own specialties: from the fire brigade's sausage stand to Maultaschen and Kässpätzle from the sports clubs, to sweets, cakes, and crêpes from the church communities. The Korntaler Brüdergemeinde — a Pietist Protestant community with its own tradition in Korntal — often participates with culinary specialties.
Accompanying the street festival is the arts and crafts market featuring local creatives — jewellery, ceramics, woodwork, sewn items, leather goods, small sculptures, paintings. A show stage presents regional bands and dance groups.
Korntal is one of the two districts of the city of Korntal-Münchingen, formed in 1975, in the Ludwigsburg district, northwest of Stuttgart. Korntal's history is closely linked to the Evangelical Brüdergemeinde, which founded the community in 1819 and gave the town an independent Pietist identity. Today, the Korntal district has around 11,000 inhabitants and sees itself as a family-friendly residential area in the commuter belt of the state capital Stuttgart. The Korntaler Sommer, as a street festival, strengthens the district's identity and brings residents, clubs, and retailers together for a joint summer celebration.
On the weekend of July 11th/12th, 2026, the trade association and city administration will open the Korntal district centre for the annual summer festival. The main street and Saalplatz will be closed, club stands will set up their marquees and beer benches, the arts and crafts market will move into the festival mile, and a show stage will provide live music and performances.
Korntal retailers will open exceptionally on Sunday — the Sunday with open shops is an important component of the Korntaler Sommer, complemented by the festive atmosphere on the streets.
