Creative and Design Market at the Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim
The FRE[HI]GEIST Creative Market is one of the few design fairs in Lower Saxony held within a museum. The Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum, globally recognized for its ancient Egyptian and Peruvian collections, opens its doors twice annually for a curated event focusing on high-quality manufacturing, small-batch production, and sustainable goods. This creates an unusual bridge between millennia-old material culture and contemporary craftsmanship.
Stalls feature designer jewelry made from silver, brass, and recycled materials; fashion in limited editions; home accessories crafted from wood and ceramics; stationery and illustrations; sustainable personal care and cosmetic products; as well as leather goods and textile art. The selection is intentionally concise, allowing each stall to showcase its unique style and giving visitors ample time for conversation. Many exhibitors hail from Hildesheim, Hannover, Göttingen, and the surrounding Lower Saxony region, supplemented by guests from across Germany.
Unlike large-scale hall fairs, FRE[HI]GEIST cultivates a calm, focused atmosphere. The museum's spaces are bright, acoustically pleasant, and allow for a presentation where each product can shine. A café and museum shop complement the offerings, and a combined ticket grants access to the permanent exhibitions.
The creative market takes place annually in March and again in autumn. The spring edition traditionally marks the start of the design season and is ideal for Easter or Mother's Day gifts, while the autumn market focuses on home accessories and Christmas presents. The museum connection ensures that a classic Hildesheim audience, valuing education and aesthetics, regularly attends.
The organizers deliberately keep barriers low: €3 entrance for adults, children under 12 enter for free. This makes the market an attractive outing for families seeking a relaxed morning or afternoon in a museum setting.
The weekend offers a concentrated experience: a carefully curated selection of manufacturers and designers, each showcasing their unique style, is presented in a manageable space. The spring edition traditionally highlights Easter gifts, spring fashion, and colorful accessories.
The Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum, with its architecture and ambiance, provides a setting that distinctly differentiates the market from classic hall fairs. The museum's café area and shop are also open during market hours.
