Sustainability festival on June 20, 2026, in Maximilianpark Hamm with the motto "Fair & CLIMATE-just" — around 30 stalls
Maximilianpark in Hamm is a 22-hectare leisure and recreation park in the Werries district, which emerged from the 1984 State Garden Show and was built on the former site of the Maximilian colliery. The striking landmark — the "Glaselefant" (Glass Elephant), a walk-in steel and glass structure in the shape of an elephant — is one of the most famous industrial monuments in the Ruhr area. The park offers themed gardens, a butterfly house, a concert stage, playgrounds, and the "Bahnsteig" — the old loading area of the colliery, now an event space.
Behind the One World and Environment Day is FUgE Hamm — a civil society initiative that bundles topics such as environmental protection, climate justice, fair trade, and sustainable development. FUgE brings together numerous member organizations from Hamm and the surrounding area: environmental associations, church communities, One World shops, schools, educational institutions, and initiatives for solidarity with the Global South. The annual One World and Environment Day is the most important platform event for this network.
The motto for 2026 is "Fair & CLIMATE-just" and connects FUgE's two core concerns: fair world trade relations and climate justice. The 30 stalls cover a broad thematic spectrum: fairly traded coffee, tea, chocolate, and textiles; initiatives for climate protection and CO2 reduction; educational programs on Global Learning; projects on human rights; local diversity initiatives; organic farming.
Fair-trade merchants from Hamm and the surrounding area, ethically oriented daycare centers, Fairtrade-certified schools, regional environmental associations (BUND, NABU), initiatives for solidarity agriculture (Solawi), One World shops, and educational institutions are represented. The individual stalls offer not only information but also practical hands-on activities — crafting, tastings, workshops, quizzes, and competitions.
The One World and Environment Day is aimed at families, school classes (though outside school hours on Saturday), engaged citizens, and anyone interested in sustainability topics. It is deliberately designed to be family-friendly, with hands-on activities for children, culinary tastings of fair-trade products, and advice on sustainable consumption.
By car via the A 2 (Hamm-Bockum exit) — parking available directly at the park. By train: Hamm main station, then bus line to Maximilianpark. The bus ride from Hamm Hbf takes about 15 minutes. In warm weather, arriving by bicycle via the Datteln-Hamm-Kanal cycle path is also recommended.
The 2026 edition runs under the motto "Fair & CLIMATE-just" — a conscious connection between fair world trade and climate justice as two sides of the same coin. 30 stalls will gather on the "Bahnsteig" of Maximilianpark, presenting a dense program of education and hands-on activities.
The date in June, before the NRW summer holidays, deliberately targets a broad family audience. Hands-on activities, workshops, tastings, and advisory services make the abstract topics of climate protection and fair trade concretely tangible.
Admission is included in the regular park tariff of Maximilianpark (Adults approx. €6, Children approx. €2.50). Stall offerings are freely accessible to park visitors.
