A festival for the families of the Uckermark
Anyone travelling through the Uckermark with children in the summer should have the Children's Festival of the City of Prenzlau on their radar. Every June, the lido on the Unteruckersee lake transforms into an open stage for the region's kindergartens, after-school care centres, and clubs. More than just a classic city festival: a day when the little ones are the stars themselves.
Date and Location 2026
The 2026 edition will take place on Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at the Prenzlau lido. Admission for children is free. The swimming area remains open, allowing families to switch between the festival programme and a dip in the Unteruckersee β if the weather cooperates, one of the most charming combinations a family festival in northern Brandenburg has to offer.
Programme and Atmosphere
Dance and drumming groups from the children's facilities perform on the main stage. Each facility designs its own small stand: craft activities, face painting, small competitions, a lucky dip. Classics include raft building with the city forester, a children's flea market, and the final balloon launch in the afternoon. Meanwhile, parents can relax in the shade at the cafΓ© and snack stands.
Prenzlau and the Lido
Prenzlau is the district town of the Uckermark district and is located about 100 km north of Berlin. The lido on the Unteruckersee is one of Brandenburg's most beautiful urban bathing facilities β sandy beach, promenade, boat rental, plus views of the Mitteltor and St. Marien Church. The walk from the train station to the lido alone is worth recommending. For the Children's Festival, connections from Berlin (RE3, approx. 1:20 h) are ideal.
A Tradition for Generations
For years, the Children's Festival has brought together the city's families and the children's facilities. Anyone who grew up in Prenzlau remembers the self-built stands, the homemade cookies, and the excitement before performing on stage. It is precisely this mix of down-to-earthness and pride in one's own city that makes this festival so charming.
