Knights, Craftsmen and Jesters in the Seepark of the Uckermark Town
The Great Medieval Festival Prenzlau is one of the autumnal heavyweights in the event calendar of the Uckermark. From September 18th to 20th, 2026, the spa garden area in the Seepark of the Hanseatic town will be transformed into a medieval world for three days: military camps with tents and campfires, craftsmen at their workbenches, jesters and minstrels in the squares, show combat in the arena. The festival joins the ranks of Brandenburg's major medieval markets and utilizes the spectacular backdrop of the Seepark on the Unteruckersee.
Prenzlau is the district town of the Uckermark district and looks back on a rich medieval history. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the town was a member of the Hanseatic League and the seat of an important Dominican monastery — today's Marienkirche with its monumental Brick Gothic architecture and the Dominican Monastery bear witness to this. The Medieval Festival builds directly on this tradition: it makes the Middle Ages tangible — not in display cases, but in the open square.
On the three festival days, you will find typical elements of an authentic medieval market in the spa garden area: craftspeople demonstrate blacksmithing, woodturning, felting, bow making, and stone carving; market stalls offer tanned leather, woven fabrics, pottery, mead, and stick bread. On the main stage — the open-air stage by the lake — music from minstrels, fire shows, and show combat by knight groups alternate. For children, there is a dedicated area with archery, medieval games, and face painting.
The Seepark Prenzlau was created as part of the State Garden Show 2013 and is now one of Brandenburg's most beautiful city parks. Located directly on the Unteruckersee, it offers the ideal backdrop for major events with its open-air stage, the spa garden area, and the vast meadows — from concerts to festivals. The Medieval Festival makes full use of this infrastructure: a self-contained medieval world emerges for three days between the lake and the old town center.
The festival explicitly appeals to all generations: history enthusiasts for the historical depth of craftsmanship, families with children for the hands-on activities, foodies for the hearty medieval cuisine (suckling pig, oven bread, mead). The mild late summer weather in mid-September makes the visit particularly pleasant — and combines well with a walk around the Unteruckersee or a visit to the Marienkirche.
From Friday, September 18th, to Sunday, September 20th, 2026, the town of Prenzlau invites you to the Great Medieval Festival in the spa garden area of the Seepark.
The Seepark Prenzlau on the Unteruckersee was created as a State Garden Show venue in 2013 and offers ideal conditions for large open-air events.
