Autumn and Wine Festival at the historic wooden press house of Kleinaspach
The Alte Kelter Kleinaspach is one of the oldest preserved wooden press houses in Germany. For centuries, grapes from the surrounding vineyards of the Backnang region were pressed here—a cultural landscape that still cultivates wine today. Today, the historic press house is a listed monument and serves as a venue for club festivals, cultural events, and—once a year—the Kelterfest, which keeps the wine-growing tradition alive.
The event is organized by SPVGG Kleinaspach/Allmersbach am Weinberg e.V.—the local sports club—together with the Aspach Winegrowers' Cooperative. This combination is typical for Württemberg wine-growing communities: the club provides the organizational structure, and the cooperative provides the wines. The result is a traditional Erntedankfest that celebrates Aspach's wine culture in autumn.
The focus is on wine tasting at several stands. The Aspach Winegrowers' Cooperative presents its current vintages—Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling, and regional wine specialties. A press demonstration shows the historic wooden press house in action: grapes are loaded, the heavy wooden beam lowers, and the fresh must flows—an impressive demonstration that brings old craftsmanship to life.
On both festival days, an entertainment program with music clubs, dance groups, and local club stands ensures a lively atmosphere. Swabian cuisine is on the menu: Maultaschen, Swabian Rostbraten, Käsknöpfle, Zwiebelrostbraten, accompanied by wood-fired bread, cakes, and of course, wine and must.
The Kelterfest falls within the Erntedank (harvest thanksgiving) weeks and takes on their symbolic dimension: gratitude for the harvest, appreciation of the wine-growing tradition, and an intergenerational community festival. A small Erntedank exhibition with grapes, local fruit, pumpkins, and wine products is usually part of the program.
Aspach near Backnang is located in the Rems-Murr district of Baden-Württemberg, about 35 kilometers northeast of Stuttgart. The municipality, with its districts Großaspach, Kleinaspach, Rietenau, and Allmersbach am Weinberg, is one of the traditional wine-growing communities of Württemberg's Unterland region. Honors for the Mostkönigin (Must Queen), wine-growing associations, and old press houses shape the community's identity.
The 2026 edition continues the Aspach wine-growing tradition. The organizer, SPVGG Kleinaspach/Allmersbach a.W. e.V., organizes the festival together with the Aspach Winegrowers' Cooperative. The focus is on the historic wooden press house—the venue, landmark, and symbol of the festival.
On both festival days, an entertainment program runs parallel to the wine tasting: music clubs, dance groups, performances by local clubs. The press demonstration with the historic wooden press is a highlight each day, often in the afternoon.
