Berlin junior sailing regatta on Tegeler See – Opti A and Opti B for young sailors
Tegeler See in the Reinickendorf district is one of Berlin's most beautiful waterside locations. Several clubs have settled on its shores since the late 19th century; one of the oldest is the Tegeler Segel-Club e.V., founded in 1901, making it part of Berlin's sailing tradition. Today, the club has around 170 members, with a high proportion of young sailors.
The Tegeler Jüngstenfestival is a junior regatta exclusively for the Optimist class, i.e., dinghies specifically designed for children and young people up to about 15 years of age. There are two racing categories: Opti A (advanced helmsmen, often with experience in Berlin ranking and national regattas) and Opti B (beginners and helmsmen on their way to their first regatta experience).
Several races are sailed over two days, following the 'Sailing Race Rules' of the German Sailing Association. Registration, class lists, results, and all regatta documents are managed via manage2sail.com – the central portal for German regatta sailing. The festival's hub is the clubhouse on land: before and after the races, members organize catering, award ceremonies, and evening gatherings.
Visitors to the Tegeler Jüngstenfestival are often surprised by how vibrant the Berlin sailing scene is. Tegeler See, Wannsee, Müggelsee, and Stechlinsee form a dense network of sailing areas around the capital. The Jüngstenfestival is a building block for youth development – an event where the next generation of Berlin regatta sailors can showcase their classes.
The 2026 edition of the Tegeler Jüngstenfestival follows the classic two-day format: on Saturday and Sunday, several races will be sailed in the Opti A and Opti B Optimist categories. Registration is done online via manage2sail.com; at the time of publication, nine boats were registered in Opti A and two in Opti B – the list will grow closer to the date.
The clubhouse of the Tegeler Segel-Club hosts the skippers' briefings, catering, and the evening award ceremony. For parents, siblings, and club members, the weekend is traditionally a family celebration by the water. The races are best followed from the Tegel waterfront promenade or from one of the watersports spots around the lake.
