Annual street festival in the historic town center of Oberstenfeld ('im Flecken') — three days of events in the Bottwartal valley
The Fleckenfest is the most traditional summer festival in the municipality of Oberstenfeld in the Ludwigsburg district. The name refers to the local term 'Flecken' — the historic designation for a medium-sized settlement with market rights, situated between a village and a town. Oberstenfeld is such a 'Flecken' settlement with a former women's convent, a collegiate church, and a half-timbered town center. The festival takes place precisely there: in the historic town center, nestled between the half-timbered houses and the famous Collegiate Church of St. Peter, one of Württemberg's oldest churches (Romanesque elements from the 11th century).
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, spanning the entire weekend. The municipality of Oberstenfeld announces new concepts for 2026 — the festival is apparently being expanded or redesigned without abandoning the fundamental character of a street festival. The proven format combines live music (local bands, brass music from local clubs), local gastronomy (catering by clubs — sports club, music club, fire department, etc.), and a colorful supporting program for families.
Oberstenfeld, with around 8,000 inhabitants, is located in the Bottwartal valley — a scenically attractive valley landscape between Beilstein and Marbach am Neckar, characterized by vineyards, scattered fruit orchards, and small 'Flecken' settlements. The municipality consists of Oberstenfeld (main town), Großbottwar, and a few hamlets. Historically, Oberstenfeld is known for the women's convent from the 11th century — an imperial abbey for noble ladies, independent of the empire, which existed until secularization in 1803. This tradition continues to shape the appearance of the 'Flecken' to this day, making it one of the historically richest places in the Ludwigsburg district.
The municipality of Oberstenfeld announces a revised festival concept for 2026, without abandoning the fundamental principles of the traditional Fleckenfest. The venue remains the historic town center around the collegiate church — the half-timbered backdrop and the medieval architecture of the monastery complex create a special atmosphere that clearly distinguishes the Fleckenfest from other folk festivals in the region. The exact detailed program (bands, club stands, family program) will be announced shortly before the date on oberstenfeld.de.
Free admission. Food and drinks at the club stands at usual folk festival prices (beer €3, bratwurst €3–4, Vesper platter €6–8). Proceeds go to the clubs.
By car via the A 81 (Heilbronn–Stuttgart), exit Mundelsheim, then through the Bottwartal valley to Oberstenfeld. By train to Marbach am Neckar (~7 km), then continue by bus. Bottwartalbahn (heritage railway) seasonally.
Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, all day. Detailed program will be announced shortly before the date by the municipality of Oberstenfeld (Tel. +49 7062 26157, Hanna Ewinger) and on oberstenfeld.de.
