Traditional Autumn Farm Festival in Bottrop-Kirchhellen
When cars park on the meadows around Scheideweg 38 in Bottrop-Kirchhellen on the last weekend of September, the annual Kartoffelfest bei Miermann is in full swing. From September 26th to 27th, 2026, Miermanns Scheune opens its barn doors to celebrate the potato – the secret national tuber of the northern Ruhr area and Münsterland.
The Kartoffelfest is a farm festival with a harvest celebration character, not an overly organized large event. That's precisely its charm:
Miermanns Scheune on Scheideweg is a traditional farm in Bottrop-Kirchhellen that, beyond agriculture, regularly serves as an event venue: weddings, birthdays, farm festivals, markets. The Kartoffelfest is its most important annual public occasion and establishes the brand 'Miermann' as a synonym for Bottrop farm culture.
Kirchhellen is the northern district of Bottrop, characterized by agriculture, rural residential areas, and its proximity to Movie Park Germany (amusement park) and the Hohe Mark Nature Park. Unlike Bottrop's industrial city centre, Kirchhellen is upscale and green — and a popular excursion destination for families from Essen, Gladbeck, and Oberhausen. The Kartoffelfest fits perfectly into this profile.
In recent years, the Kartoffelfest bei Miermann has established itself as a firm fixture on the autumn calendar for families in the northern Ruhr area. The Bottrop press (inkirchhellen.de, Bottroper Zeitung) reports on it annually. The Bottroper Zeitung already included the festival in its preview of the event highlights for 2026.
The 2026 Kartoffelfest runs on the last weekend of September, both days from 11 am to 6 pm. The Reibekuchen are freshly prepared in the pan, and the market stalls showcase regional products from the western Münsterland and northern Ruhr area. Children's program with hay jumping and craft activities.
Current program: miermanns-scheune.de.
Free entry. Reibekuchen approx. €4, potato soup approx. €5, fresh potatoes €1.50–€2.50/kg depending on variety.
By Car: A31 exit Kirchhellen or A2 exit Bottrop, then follow signs for Kirchhellen-Scheideweg. Parking available at the farm and on surrounding meadows. By Bus/Train: Bus line SB16 from Bottrop-Mitte, stop "Movie Park" or "Kirchhellen Mitte", then approx. 15 min. walk or taxi.
Saturday morning for a quieter visit; Sunday afternoon is busier. With children, it's better to come in the morning — the hay jumping and animal areas are less crowded then. Bring cash — many stalls do not accept cards. Bring bags and cool bags if you plan to buy potatoes and regional products.
