Where the Carp Season Begins
The KarpfenMarktPlatz is the traditional start of the Aischgrund carp season in Neustadt an der Aisch, the district town of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim (Middle Franconia, Bavaria). The Aischgrund is one of Germany's most renowned carp pond regions; the KarpfenMarktPlatz celebrates this heritage with a culinary market festival right in the center of town.
The »Aischgründer« in All Its Variations
The focus is on carp, specifically the »Aischgründer«. Local restaurateurs showcase the full spectrum of preparation methods: crispy baked, poached »blau«, prepared Asian-style, or as a carp burger. This culinary offering is complemented by Franconian wine and an entertainment program.
Museum, Farmers' Market, and Hands-on Activities
The Aischgrund Carp Museum in the old Neustadt Castle is present with a stand – in cooperation with the municipal tourist information – and attracts visitors with a popular live tank and prize draws. The day is further enhanced by a farmers' market featuring fresh, regional products and a children's program. The KarpfenMarktPlatz also participates in the nationwide »Tag der Regionen« (Day of the Regions) initiative, highlighting regional value creation.
Culinary Flagship of the Region
With its blend of regional food culture, pond farming tradition, and town festival atmosphere, the KarpfenMarktPlatz is a vibrant showcase of the Aischgrund – and for many, the enjoyable kickoff to the carp season, which traditionally runs from September 1st to November 1st.
