140 Years of Bischofroda Volunteer Fire Brigade

The Bischofroda Volunteer Fire Brigade — FFW Bischofroda for short — is one of the oldest club structures in the municipality. Founded in 1885, it celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2026. Due to the pandemic, the official anniversary festival planned for 2025 was postponed — hence the festival will officially be held as '140 + 1', a charming gesture framing the 'stolen' anniversary year of 2025. At the same time, the Bischofroda Youth Fire Brigade celebrates its 30th anniversary. The festival on June 13 and 14, 2026, unites both anniversaries.

Major Social Event in the Village

In villages like Bischofroda, the Volunteer Fire Brigade is not just an emergency organization but a central social hub — especially in regions without restaurants or other club structures. The anniversary festival becomes a major social event: all generations of the village participate, and many come from the entire Hainich-Werratal administrative district. A parade, historic vehicles, demonstrations of current operational technology, a festival tent with live music, food stalls, and a children's program are classically part of the repertoire.

30 Years of Youth Fire Brigade

The Bischofroda Youth Fire Brigade was founded in 1996 and has been the training ground for the FFW for three decades. Youth Fire Brigade members between the ages of 10 and 18 learn the basics of firefighting — from knots and hoses to first aid and competitions. The 30th anniversary is part of the festival weekend.
