About JFBB

The Jüdisches Filmfestival Berlin & Brandenburg (JFBB) is the only festival in the region exclusively showcasing Jewish cinema. Since 1995, it has been held annually in May at arthouse cinemas in Berlin and venues in Potsdam — from Filmkunst 66 in Charlottenburg and Moviemento in Kreuzberg to the Filmmuseum Potsdam. You'll see feature films and documentaries from around the world, competitions, retrospectives, and meet filmmakers from Israel, the USA, Europe, and the Jewish diaspora.

A festival week, two federal states, many stories

The Jüdisches Filmfestival Berlin & Brandenburg — JFBB for short — has been a fixture on the Berlin film calendar since 1995. Every spring, it showcases contemporary Jewish filmmaking from Israel, the USA, Europe, and wherever Jewish life creates cinema. It is supported by the Förderverein des Jüdischen Filmfestivals Berlin & Brandenburg e.V., funded by the City of Berlin and the State of Brandenburg.

Where the festival takes place

Unlike the Berlinale, the JFBB deliberately spreads across several arthouse cinemas in Berlin and Brandenburg:

  • Filmkunst 66, Bleibtreustraße 12, Charlottenburg — traditional main venue
  • Moviemento, Kottbusser Damm, Kreuzberg — Germany's oldest cinema
  • Bundesplatz-Kino, Wilmersdorf
  • Kino Krokodil, Greifenhagener Straße, Prenzlauer Berg
  • Thalia — Programmkino Babelsberg, Potsdam
  • Filmmuseum Potsdam, Marstall

Programmatic pillars

  • Feature Film Competition with ten international productions
  • Documentary Film Competition, also ten films
  • Nordic Jewish Focus: Jewish life in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden
  • Other Israel: multifaceted Israeli-Palestinian film realities
  • Kino Fermished: Classics, rediscoveries, 16mm prints
  • Nosh Nosh: Short film program — humorous and experimental
  • Film discussions, Q&As, receptions

More than just films

The JFBB also serves as a cultural platform for Jewish life in Berlin and Brandenburg. International directors, actors, and producers are guests at the festival, with film discussions accompanying every screening, and many films having their German premiere. Berlin, as the city with Germany's largest Jewish community, offers the festival a unique resonance space.

JFBB — edition 2026

The 32nd edition of JFBB runs from May 5th to 10th, 2026, in four Berlin cinemas and two venues in Potsdam. 60 films from 22 countries are on the program, featuring competitions for feature films and documentaries, the Nordic Jewish Focus, the Other Israel series, and a Kino Fermished retrospective.

32nd JFBB — May 5–10, 2026

The anniversary edition brings together 60 films from 22 countries and highlights two thematic focuses: Nordic Jewish Focus (Jewish life in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden) and Other Israel (complex Israeli-Palestinian realities). The competition includes ten feature films and ten documentaries each. The Kino Fermished series plays a special role with classics such as the 16mm re-release of "Hotel Berlin" (Peter Godfrey, USA, based on Vicky Baum), two restored films from Artur Brauner's workshop, and a new screening of the Oscar winner "Son of Saul" (László Nemes).
