Over Six Decades of Association History
The Volksfest Bakum was first celebrated in 1963 and has since become an indispensable part of Bakum's club life and the event calendar in the Oldenburger Münsterland region. The 63rd edition in 2026 is a testament to a continuous tradition of associations, voluntarily supported by the members of the Archers and the Music Association.
Date After Pentecost
Its anchoring on the weekend after Pentecost has been a conscious choice since the festival's early years: while the region's shooting associations traditionally organize their events during the Pentecost weekend itself, the Bakum Volksfest offers an opportunity a week later to welcome fellow marksmen, music bands, and families from the surrounding communities. The date has been firmly established for decades.
Bogenschützen Bakum (Bakum Archers)
The Bogenschützen Bakum are one of the most traditional associations in the municipality of Bakum. They cultivate archery as a sport and organize shooting competitions and the traditional king's shoot at the Volksfest. The royal court is then presented in a festive proclamation.
Musikverein Bakum (Bakum Music Association)
The Musikverein Bakum provides the musical foundation for the festival weekend with concerts, accompanying programs for the parade, and performances in the marquee. In addition, cover bands and DJs are hired for dancing evenings to turn the marquee into a dance floor for young and old.
Family-Friendly Folk Festival
The Volksfest Bakum explicitly sees itself as a family festival with a children's carousel, small rides, a shooting gallery, candy stalls, and a Sunday morning 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint). Free admission to the festival grounds underscores the popular, down-to-earth character of the event.
