Three days of open studios, workshops, and stages at the University of the Arts
The University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) is one of the largest art universities in Europe. Around 4,000 students are distributed across four faculties — Fine Arts, Design, Music, and Performing Arts — as well as the Jazz Institute Berlin and the Berlin Career College. The university is spread across several locations in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf; the main campus is at Hardenbergstraße 11, with other major buildings located at Straße des 17. Juni 118, Einsteinufer 43, Grunewaldstraße 2–5, Fasanenstraße 1b, Lietzenburger Straße 45, Bundesallee 1–12, and Uferstraße 23.
Once a year, traditionally in July, the UdK opens all its buildings to the public as part of the Rundgang. For three days, visitors can freely move between the locations and explore the interior of one of Europe's most important art universities. Students present their semester and final projects directly in their studios, workshops, and rehearsal rooms — from sculpture studios with unfinished works to fashion shows and concerts in the concert hall.
What makes the Rundgang special: It's not a classic festival with curated programming, but an open format that showcases the ongoing work of the art university. You walk through a studio, chat with a student about their performance series, hear an improvisation on the piano next door, and then head to a fashion show on the ground floor. The atmosphere is unpretentious and curious — both prospective art students and the Berlin cultural public are part of the audience. Admission free.
From July 17 to 19, 2026, the University of the Arts Berlin opens its doors for the annual Rundgang. Three days of open house for sculpture, architecture, design, music, performing arts, Jazz Institute Berlin, and Berlin Career College. Admission free. All locations in Berlin-Charlottenburg are participating.
The complete day-by-day program will be published shortly before July 17 by the individual faculties of the UdK at udk-berlin.de/rundgang. Structurally, the Rundgang follows this outline:
Admission free. Food and drinks available at individual locations for a fee — cafeterias and stands in the courtyard.
Main campus: Hardenbergstraße 11, 10623 Berlin (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district). U-Bahn U2 Ernst-Reuter-Platz, U-Bahn U9 Spichernstraße, S+U Zoologischer Garten. Other locations spread across Charlottenburg — maps and routes on the UdK website.
Admission free.
Three full days. Pick up a map of all locations at the main counter. The program guide typically suggests two to three locations per day — the UdK is large enough that you can't see everything in one day.
