The Fliegenkirmes Fröndenberg is the most important summer event in the calendar of the small Ruhr town — a traditional four-day Volksfest funfair held every year on the third weekend of September in Himmelmannpark. In 2026, the funfair runs from Friday, September 18th, to Monday, September 21st, 2026. Daily opening hours: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The Name "Fliegenkirmes"

The unusual name "Fliegenkirmes" (literally "Flying Funfair") has traditional roots in the region: Popular explanations link it to the abundance of stalls and the lively activity, reminiscent of a swarm of bees or flies. The name is firmly established in Fröndenberg's local dialect and gives the funfair its unmistakable identity marker.
