Hands-on History of Technology

The International Mill Day in Theuern takes place annually as part of International Museum Day. The organizer is the Ostbayern Mining and Industrial Museum (BIMO) at Theuern Castle in Kümmersbruck, Amberg-Sulzbach district, Bavaria.

The Historic Glass Grinding Mill

The venue is the glass grinding mill on Castnerstraße in Theuern, an external site of the museum. The building originally served as a grain mill before it was converted into a glass grinding and polishing facility – however, part of the milling mechanism remained and is still fully functional today.

Millers in Traditional Costume Guide Through the Monument

During special guided tours, a miller in historical costume explains how the mill works. Mills are among the most significant technological achievements in human history: for millennia, they enabled the grinding of grain into flour – the basis for bread, one of the most important staple foods.

A Day with Free Admission

International Museum Day is a nationwide event day on which numerous museums invite visitors with free admission. In Theuern, it is combined with Mill Day – a family-friendly offer that makes industrial culture tangible.

Theuern Castle and the BIMO

The Ostbayern Mining and Industrial Museum documents the rich mining and industrial history of the Oberpfalz region. Mill Day fits into this profile and makes the museum attractive to families and technology enthusiasts.
