Beer diversity from Amberg breweries on the Bleichwiese in front of the ACC
The Amberger Bierfest takes place on the Bleichwiese in front of the Amberger Congress Centrum (ACC) in Amberg, an independent city in the Upper Palatinate in eastern Bavaria. Amberg is considered a beer city: no fewer than six active breweries shape the local beer culture, and the Bierfest brings them together for one day.
The festival opens at 12 p.m. with the tapping of the first barrel on the Bleichwiese. The breweries Bruckmüller, Kummert, Schloderer, Sterk, Sudhang, and Winkler present around 50 different types of beer. For the first time, Bruckmüller and Winkler are also offering non-alcoholic beer. Visitors purchase a tasting mug and sample the variety of beers.
Mutzbraterei Schwarzenfeld provides the culinary catering with its specialty Mutzbraten (roasted pork) as well as steaks, bratwurst, and Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) with fried onions.
Three musical acts accompany the festival: Übler Boum (11 a.m.–2 p.m.), the Knappschaftskapelle Amberg (2:30 p.m.–5 p.m.), and Boazn Briada (6 p.m.–9 p.m.).
The Amberger Bierfest also marks the start of the Amberger Bierwochen. The festival is organized by the Cultural Department of the City of Amberg together with the local breweries. The festival is only canceled in case of heavy rain, storm, or thunderstorm.
