80 Years of Bavarian Costume Preservation
The mountain costume preservation association "Almröserl" Oberneukirchen was founded in 1946 and has since been one of the most active costume associations in the district of Mühldorf am Inn, state of Bavaria. Its goal: the preservation of Upper Bavarian traditional costumes, Schuhplattler (a traditional Bavarian dance), folk dance, and customs. In 2026, the association celebrates its 80th anniversary – an occasion for a whole year of celebrations centered around the festival tent at the Festplatz Oberneukirchen.
Main Festival Weekend June 12 to 14, 2026
The anniversary year kicks off with the main festival weekend from June 12 to 14, 2026. On Friday evening, June 12, starting at 7 PM, the festival tent opens with a Wine and Wheat Beer Festival: Upper Bavarian wines, wheat beer from a regional brewery, small delicacies, and live music. On Saturday, June 13, starting at 7 PM, the traditional Heimatabend follows with Schuhplattler, folk dance, Stubenmusik (traditional chamber music), and dialect contributions from the Almröserl members. On Sunday, June 14, the focus is on the Festival Sunday with a church procession, festival mass, Frühschoppen (morning pint), and all-day festival activities.
Further Program Points in the Anniversary Year
Beyond the main festival days, the association has packed the anniversary year with further events: On Thursday, June 18, 2026, the traditional Watt tournament will take place in the festival tent starting at 7 PM. On Friday/Saturday, June 20-21, 2026, the "Schnoiz-di-weg-Party" invites a younger audience to the festival tent. The highlight of the second half of the season is the Gaufest Dahoam on July 19, 2026, as a substitute Gaufest with friendly costume associations.
Costume Preservation as the Association's Purpose
What distinguishes this event from a classic Volksfest (public festival) is the consistent integration of Upper Bavarian costume culture. Each festival evening is opened by the association in traditional costume; Schuhplattler performances, folk dance demonstrations, traditional wedding customs, and dialect readings shape the character of the festival. Thus, the 80th anniversary is not just an association celebration but also an advertisement for living Bavarian customs.
