Local festival at Brandenburg's oldest post mill
The Lebusa Post Mill, built in 1686, is the oldest surviving post mill in the state of Brandenburg and is considered a technical monument of supra-regional importance. With its characteristic post structure, allowing the entire mill building to be turned into the wind, it is among the oldest grinding facilities in Central Germany.
Once a year, the people of Lebusa celebrate their post mill with the Mühlenfest. In 2026, the 32nd edition will take place. The program includes:
The Mühlenfest should not be confused with the Deutscher Mühlentag (German Mill Day) on Whit Monday (May 25, 2026) – the post mill is also open on this day. Deutscher Mühlentag is a nationwide event, while the Mühlenfest is a local heritage festival with a special program character.
Lebusa is a district of the municipality of Lebusa in the Amt Schlieben, within the Elbe-Elster district. The region, known as the Schliebener Land, is one of the most rural and tranquil areas of Brandenburg. Visitors to Lebusa will find an original Brandenburg cultural landscape amidst forests, meadows, and villages – with the post mill as its most important technical monument.
The 2026 Mühlenfest is the 32nd edition of the local festival in Lebusa. At the post mill dating from 1686, the local heritage association opens the milling operations for visitors, showcases traditional crafts, and creates a festive atmosphere with music and gastronomy.
The focus is on the encounter between tradition and region: millers share the history of the post mill, old craft techniques are brought to life, and families can enjoy a children's program centered around millers and milling technology. It's a special opportunity to experience Brandenburg's oldest mill technology monument in action.
Free admission. Donations for the preservation of the post mill are gratefully accepted.
