Classical open-air concert with fireworks on the Britzer See in Neukölln
For years, the Klassik Open Air in Britzer Garten has been one of Berlin's most popular classical summer concerts. The venue is the lake stage on Britzer See – a natural arena in the south of the Neukölln district, where listeners can take their seats on meadows and slopes around the water. The concert is the annual highlight of the Britzer Garten summer program.
The musical core is provided by the Philharmonia Frankfurt under chief conductor Yuri Gilbo, a violinist and conductor born in Saint Petersburg in 1968. The orchestra's members come from various European countries, South America, Asia, and Australia – a blend of sounds that combines Eastern European string tradition with Western European brass precision.
For 2026, the motto is "Carnevale di classico – Musical Mask Magic": Carnival, masks, and transformation as the common thread. The program includes the Carnival Overture by Antonín Dvořák, "The Barber of Seville" by Gioachino Rossini, "A Masked Ball" by Giuseppe Verdi, and the famous "Carnival of Venice" by Jean-Baptiste Arban.
The finale is a colorful fireworks display that bathes the stage, the lake shore, and the surrounding meadows in light. On clear August nights, the spectacle is legendary – one of the reasons why the Klassik Open Air has been sold out for years. The organizer is Britzer Garten, managed by Grün Berlin.
The Klassik Open Air 2026 will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the lake stage in Britzer Garten (Sangerhauser Weg 1, 12349 Berlin-Britz). Admission is at 2 PM, the concert begins at 7 PM.
