Jazz from Neukölln – A Festival with an Educational Focus

The Jazzfest Neukölln is the showcase for the jazz department of the Paul Hindemith Neukölln Music School. Since its first edition around 2011, the festival invites visitors once a year to the Kulturstall at Schloss & Gutshof Britz – a former stable of Gutshof Britz, now serving as a 200-seat event space with historical charm. For the 16th edition, over 100 musicians in more than 15 ensembles will perform a three-day program with a clear educational focus: teachers, students of the preparatory jazz program (StuVo), and established Berlin jazz musicians share the stage. Admission is free.

What Makes the 2026 Edition Special

  • Instrument of the Year 2026 – Accordion: In concerts on Friday and Sunday, an instrument rarely dominant in jazz takes center stage.
  • Jazz Competition: On Friday, a high-caliber competition for the StuVo bands of Berlin music schools. Jury: Dr. Clara Haberkamp, Prof. Daniel Mattar, Prof. Paulo Morello.
  • Breadth of Styles: "Jazz in all its facets, from the avant-garde trio to the a cappella choir."
  • Big Bands on Sunday: Matinee featuring Thärichens Tentett and the Flintstones Big Band Berlin.

Venue and Location

The Kulturstall is located on the historic Gutshof Britz, one of Berlin's best-preserved Baroque estate complexes. Complementary educational and cultural programs take place in the neighboring Schloss Britz. The Britz district belongs to the Neukölln borough and is easily accessible via U7 (Parchimer Allee) and tram M44. The Gutshof is car-free and located in close proximity to the Hufeisensiedlung (UNESCO World Heritage site).

Funding

The festival is supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Societal Cohesion as part of the 2026 Jazz Project Funding. The organizer is the Neukölln District Office through the Paul Hindemith Music School.
