Apple variety exhibition, historical music and medieval market in the Britz manor courtyard – Cocolorus Budenzauber e.V. (7th edition 2026)
Britz Castle in Berlin's Neukölln district dates back to the 18th century and is one of the city's few surviving manor estates. The complex – castle, stables, barns, outbuildings, and park – forms an architecturally cohesive backdrop. For several years, the Cocolorus Budenzauber e.V. association has used the grounds every September for its Historical Apple Festival, which has become one of Berlin's most prominent historically themed district festivals.
The festival is brought to life by Cocolorus Diaboli, a Berlin-based troupe of travelling musicians, actors, acrobats, stilt walkers, jugglers, clowns, and magicians. They roam the grounds throughout the weekend, perform on the main stage, engage the audience, and involve children in the fun. Their style ranges from medieval to Renaissance and Baroque, featuring historical instruments, elaborate costumes, and a blend of slapstick and skill.
The heart of the festival is the apple variety exhibition: old and rare varieties from Brandenburg, the surrounding areas of Berlin, and all of Germany are presented on long tables. A pomologist (apple expert) holds consultations and identifies apples and pears brought by visitors from their own gardens – a service that draws long queues every year. Those interested can press their own juice at a historical apple press.
Axe and archery under instruction, a giant trampoline, pony rides, stilt-walking workshops for children, craft stalls, and corners for fairy tales and legends: the festival is explicitly designed for families. The historical atmosphere is maintained in a playful, not didactic, manner.
The 7th edition is announced for the traditional September timeframe – the weekend of September 26th/27th has been communicated by intermediary sites. As of spring 2026, an official program announcement from the organizer Cocolorus Budenzauber e.V. is still pending. Based on experience from previous years, the program will follow the established format: apple variety exhibition with a pomologist, hands-on activities, medieval market atmosphere, and a stage program by the Cocolorus Diaboli troupe.
The complete 2026 program will be announced in spring/summer on cocolorus-budenzauber.de. Based on the established previous editions, the following program points are expected:
