16th Edition — 100 Musicians, 15 Ensembles, Free Admission
Schloss Britz with its farmyard at Alt-Britz 73-89 is one of Berlin's most unusual urban ensembles: a 17th-century noble manor house in the middle of Neukölln, surrounded by a farmyard with stables, a row of utility buildings, and a park. Today, it is the cultural center of the Neukölln district with a district museum, city archive, and event hall — and once a year, in January, it is the venue for the Neuköllner Jazzfest.
The festival is a format by the Paul Hindemith Music School Neukölln in collaboration with Berlin jazz professionals. Students from the music school perform in their own ensembles, while professionals from the Berlin jazz scene present trio and big band programs. Each year features a different instrument focus — 2026: the accordion. This mix — emerging talent and professionals, classical combos to a cappella choirs, avant-garde to standards — is unique in the Berlin festival landscape.
While Mitte and Friedrichshain are known for techno and indie music, Neukölln has developed into one of Berlin's most important jazz districts in recent years. Venues like Donau115 (acoustic stage), B-Flat (in Mitte, but with Neukölln roots), Sowieso, and several neighborhood pubs support the genre — the Neuköllner Jazzfest brings this scene together in an official capacity once a year. Funding is provided by the Berlin Senate's "Jazz Project Funding 2026."
From January 23 to 25, 2026, Schloss Britz in Neukölln will become the festival venue for Berlin jazz. Over 100 musicians in 15 ensembles will perform programs covering the entire genre spectrum over three days: avant-garde, standards, big band, a cappella choir, trio format. The focus instrument for 2026 is the accordion — a tribute to this often underestimated instrument in jazz history. Free admission.
The complete program for the 16th Neuköllner Jazzfest 2026 will be published by the Neukölln District Office on berlin.de/ba-neukoelln and via the Paul Hindemith Music School. Key points for the weekend of January 23–25, 2026:
The accordion is something of an outsider in jazz history — from Astor Piazzolla to the French musette tradition. The 2026 festival dedicates a special program segment to it, featuring Berlin accordion players.
