Kempten's Spring Fair

The Himmelfahrtsmarkt is the traditional spring fair in the city of Kempten in the Allgäu region. For about ten days around Ascension Day, the central Königsplatz square transforms into an amusement park with over 20 rides, shooting galleries, game stalls, and a wide culinary selection.

Rides and Delicacies

The offerings range from family rides to thrilling high-altitude attractions. Culinary delights include candied almonds, churros, pizza, bratwurst, and crêpes – the full repertoire of a Bavarian fair. The opening traditionally features a festive start by the Kempten City Band.

The Market

Accompanying the fair is a large market on Hildegardplatz and in the Stadtpark. Over 60 vendors offer handmade leather and wooden goods, traditional costumes, jewelry, cosmetics, and household items – a market day that adds a shopping and strolling component to the Volksfest.

Location in the Allgäu

Kempten is the largest city in the Allgäu and an independent city in the state of Bavaria. Königsplatz in the heart of the city is easily accessible on foot and by public transport. The Himmelfahrtsmarkt is a fixed social event in spring for the region.
