The Festival of Futures transforms Kempten in the Allgäu region into a place of positive visions for a week. Kempten is an independent city in the administrative region of Swabia (Bavaria) and is considered one of Germany's oldest cities. Under the motto 'Shaping the Future Together', everything revolves around sustainability, the common good, and new economic models.
Symposium
The event kicks off with a two-day symposium: The first day is dedicated to sustainable agriculture and new economic models, the second day to the care economy and the question of how female energy and care can be lived and shaped globally.
Action Days
During the festival week, numerous regional initiatives present their projects on sustainability, community, and justice. The Action Days make concrete examples of lived change in the Allgäu visible and invite participation.
Future Festival
The highlight is the grand Future Festival: a market of opportunities with two stages full of music, theater, and performance, numerous hands-on activities for children and young people, choirs, dance performances, and a diverse organic culinary offering with solidarity food options.

The festival is organized by the Zukunftsbündnis Allgäu (Allgäu Future Alliance) on behalf of the Gemeinwohl-Gesellschaft e.V. (Association for the Common Good). It serves as a space for experiences and encounters, bringing together people with inspiring future concepts and positioning the Allgäu region as a hub for change.
Festival of Futures — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Futures runs from Saturday, May 9, to Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Kempten and the surrounding area, under the motto 'Shaping the Future Together'.
It begins with a two-day symposium on May 9 and 10: Saturday focusing on sustainable agriculture and new economic models, Sunday (Mother's Day) on the care economy and female energy. From May 11 to 16, regional initiatives will showcase their projects during the Action Days. The highlight is the Future Festival on Thursday, May 14, at the bigBox Allgäu – a market of opportunities with two stages full of music, theater, and performance, hands-on activities for children and young people, and organic culinary and solidarity food options. The Action Days and Future Festival are free to attend.

Getting There
Kempten is easily accessible via the A7 and A980 motorways and as a railway hub in the Allgäu region. Events take place at various locations in and around Kempten; the Future Festival is held at the bigBox Allgäu.
