About Nordic Christmas Tibarg

Nordic Christmas at Tibarg transforms the pedestrian zone in Hamburg-Niendorf into a Scandinavian winter wonderland for four weeks. Swedish red wooden huts, illuminated tipis, and cozy fairy lights create an atmosphere you'd otherwise only find in Stockholm or Copenhagen. From November 26th to December 24th, 2026, you can experience Nordic handicrafts, mulled wine (Glühwein), Scandinavian specialties, and a tranquility that is unparalleled in Hamburg during the pre-Christmas season.

Scandinavian Flair in the Middle of Niendorf

In the north of Hamburg, the Eimsbüttel district has Niendorf, one of the Hanseatic city's quietest neighborhood centers. It is precisely here, on the car-free Tibarg pedestrian zone, that one of the most charming Christmas markets in the state of Hamburg is created each year. Instead of the typical wooden huts in dark fir green, the Tibarg business association opts for the famous Swedish Falun red – a homage to Scandinavia, which gave Niendorf its name (Niendorf literally means "new village" – the connection to the Nordic cultural area is deeply rooted).

Huts, Tipis, and Enchanting Lights

More than two dozen red-painted huts line up on the Tibarg. In between are spacious tipis where you can warm up and gather for live music. Handicrafts made of wood, handmade jewelry, Danish knitwear, Finnish candles, and Norwegian furs characterize the offerings. Those looking for gifts far from the mainstream will reliably find them here.

Nordic Cuisine

Instead of bratwurst and lard pastries, Scandinavian specialties dominate: smoked salmon from the skerries, Köttbullar with lingonberry jam, Glögg in various variations (also non-alcoholic), Pepparkakor, Danish Æbleskiver, and Finnish licorice creations. A clear recommendation goes to the hot Glögg with almonds and raisins – this is not mulled wine, but its own tradition that you should not miss.

Cozy Atmosphere for the Whole Family

Nordic Christmas is especially appreciated by families in Hamburg. The pedestrian zone is spacious, the paths are wide, and the atmosphere is family-friendly and relaxed. Children will find a small carousel and occasional storytelling sessions in the large tipi. On December 4th, 2026, Tibarg will also invite you to a joint forest Christmas carol sing-along behind Niendorf's Marktkirche at 6 PM – a local custom that reflects the heart of the neighborhood.

Getting There and Location

Tibarg is located directly at the U-Bahn station Niendorf Markt (line U2), just twelve minutes from Jungfernstieg. This accessibility makes the market the ideal destination for a relaxed afternoon away from the tourist crowds around Hamburg's Rathausmarkt or Spitalerstraße.

The 2026 Edition at a Glance

The 2026 Nordic Christmas runs officially from Wednesday, November 26th, to Thursday, December 24th. The Tibarg business association has confirmed the date in the official 2026 event calendar – making it Niendorf's longest Christmas market. Over 20 exhibitors with Nordic handicrafts are expected, along with tipis offering seating areas for Glögg and Köttbullar.
