Scotland in the Kraichgau — three days of Highland Sports, Pipes & Drums, and Whisky in the Eichtersheim Castle Park
From July 10th to 12th, 2026, the Eichtersheim Castle Park will transform for the 18th time into a piece of Scotland in the heart of Baden-Württemberg: The International Highland Games Angelbachtal is one of Germany's largest Scotland events, attracting thousands of visitors to the Kraichgau every year. The organizer is the association Internationale Highland Games Angelbachtal, chaired by Olav Praetsch.
The 2026 edition is themed "more of everything": more music on the stages, more competition disciplines, more sustainability, and an expanded market area. The focus is on the Scottish Heavy Events — caber toss, stone put, hammer throw, and tug-of-war — as well as the impressive pipe bands arriving in full regalia from all over Europe. A dedicated whisky flea market in a tent allows private sellers to trade bottles, buy small tasting portions, and organize tastings. Despite inflation, the organizers are keeping admission prices stable.
A new program item for 2026 is the Friday evening opening titled "Now is the time to rise — enter the Battlefield" — free admission is available from Friday, July 10th. Only the main competition days on Saturday and Sunday require tickets. Teams can register now.
Eichtersheim is one of the two districts of the municipality of Angelbachtal in the Rhein-Neckar district (the other being Michelfeld). The historic castle park with the Eichtersheim moated castle — now the town hall — provides an extraordinary backdrop for the Highland Games: old trees, watercourses, wide meadows for the Heavy Events, and intimate spots for music and market stalls. The Kraichgau region between Heidelberg and Sinsheim is famous for its rolling hills and vineyards — an unusual but atmospheric setting for a Scottish summer festival.
From July 10th to 12th, 2026, the 18th edition of the International Highland Games Angelbachtal will take place — in the Eichtersheim Castle Park, one of the most beautiful venues in the region. The 2026 edition is themed "more of everything": more music, more sports competitions, more sustainability, an expanded market area.
