Ritterspiele Angelbachtal — Three Tournaments a Day
When the Eichtersheim Castle Park transforms into a medieval camp area in early August, the Angelbachtal Knight Festival is in full swing. On August 8 and 9, 2026, in the shadow of the Renaissance moated castle, three jousting tournaments per day will take place: Saturdays at 2 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM, and on Sunday during the day. Mounted knights in full armor will compete in real jousting on the tournament track — one of the most spectacular program points of the South German medieval festival scene.
Medieval Market with Over a Hundred Stalls
The medieval market with over a hundred stalls is set up around the tournament track. Artisans in historical costumes — blacksmiths, leatherworkers, bow makers, pewter casters, glassblowers, potters, felt makers — demonstrate their crafts live. At other stalls, you'll find medieval food (chicken skewers, stick bread, lamb stew, Brotzeiten with cheese and sausage), mead, beer from clay mugs, and apple spritzers. The atmosphere is authentic — no plastic packaging, no modern trinkets, but truly lived historical market atmosphere.
Minstrels, Jugglers, and Fire-Breathing Shows
Between tournaments, minstrels (bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, shawm, davul drum), jugglers, acrobats, fire-breathers, and theater groups entertain on the meadows around the market. You can watch a sword-fighting duo demonstrate their historical techniques on one meadow, witness a fire-breathing spectacle elsewhere, or listen to a minstrel on his hurdy-gurdy — the program flows seamlessly, without a fixed schedule.
Eichtersheim Castle Park — The Historical Setting
The Eichtersheim Moated Castle is a three-story Renaissance building from the late 16th century, shaping the festival grounds with its distinctive character. The castle park surrounding the castle offers shady trees, meadows, and paths — the ideal setting for a medieval festival. You enter the festival grounds through a historical gate and truly feel transported back to another time.
Angelbachtal — Wine and Castle Community in the Kraichgau
The municipality of Angelbachtal is located in the southern Rhein-Neckar district, in the picturesque Kraichgau. It consists of the districts of Eichtersheim and Michelfeld and has around 5,000 inhabitants. The Eichtersheim district is famous for its castle and its location in one of Baden's most beautiful wine and fruit orchard landscapes. In summer, the region is popular for wine hikes, bike tours on the Kraichgau-Stromberg Cycle Path, and castle visits — the Knight Festival fits perfectly into this picture.
Advance Sale and Tickets
Tickets for the Knight Games are cheaper in advance than at the box office; advance sale points include online shops like Karfunkel-Shop and regional bookstores. Families with children benefit from discounted family tickets.
