About Frühlingsfest
Frühlingsfest — edition 2026
The Strausberg city administration traditionally invites you to the official season opener of the festival culture: Maypole, Maibock tapping, live music. On-site, there will be bratwurst, Maibock beer, and May cocktails. Families with children head to the Energie-Arena in the late afternoon, where the Strausberg fanfare band organizes its own children's festival.
The festival lasts until midnight; follow-up programs on May 1st vary depending on the year. In 2026, it is part of the city's event calendar and announced in the city flyer.

May Tradition in Strausberg's Old Town
Strausberg, the small district town 30 km east of Berlin in the Märkisch-Oderland district, has preserved a vibrant city festival culture. The Frühlingsfest on May 1st (season opener) is one of the most important city festivals — historic old town, market square, fanfare band, May atmosphere. The event is organized by the Strausberg city administration in cooperation with local associations.
Maypole and Maibock
Classic May customs: The Maypole is erected in the market square, Mayor Elke Stadeler taps the first Maibock (a particularly strong seasonal beer). This marks the opening of the warm season, and the Frühlingsfest continues with music, snacks, and an open-air atmosphere late into the night.
Children's Festival at the Energie-Arena
Parallel to the Maypole ceremony, a children's festival takes place at the Energie-Arena (with the Strausberg Fanfare Band) — a nice alternative for families who find the beer spectacle in the market square too hectic. Here there are hands-on activities, music from the fanfares, and family entertainment.
Around and About: Strausberg and the Straussee
Anyone who is in Strausberg anyway should make a detour to the Straussee — the lake in the middle of the city with the historic Strausseefähre (the oldest electrically operated ferry in Germany, since 1894). Strausberg is directly accessible from Berlin via the S5 line (end station S-Bahn Strausberg-Nord).
