Seasonal produce, live music, and children's activities on the historic estate
Domäne Dahlem is one of Berlin's oldest farmsteads. First documented in 1560, it was used for agriculture for centuries. Today, the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin operates the site as an open-air museum with active farming. Right in the middle of Berlin's Dahlem district (Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough), you'll find actual farmland, scattered orchards, pigsties, and 19th-century farm buildings — an unusual bastion of rural Berlin history nestled between villa-lined streets and the university campus.
For the autumn market in October, the Domäne opens its gates for an entire weekend. Around 30 stalls offer market goods in autumnal selection: regional fruits and vegetables (pumpkins, apples, pears, quinces), sausage and cheese specialties, bread and pastries, honey, jams, arts and crafts made from wool, wood, and ceramics. The atmosphere is familiar and unpretentious — many vendors come from Brandenburg and have been regulars for years.
What sets the Domäne apart from other Berlin market events are its agricultural education offerings: children can interact with sheep, pigs, and chickens in the petting zoo, try baking bread or weaving baskets in the educational workshop, and learn more about regional agriculture in the fields. For many Berlin kindergartens and schools, the Domäne is a familiar learning place — the autumn market extends this offering into the weekend.
A small stage in the courtyard provides live music, mostly folk, acoustic, or small folk music ensembles. Inside the farm buildings ("Großer Erntehof", "Kornscheune"), hands-on workshops and occasional lectures on topics such as regional nutrition, organic farming, or scattered orchards take place.
Those who know Berlin only as the capital with the Wall, Reichstag, and Berghain overlook its rural south. Domäne Dahlem, the nearby Botanical Garden Berlin-Dahlem, and Königin-Luise-Straße as an avenue of German prehistory form a Berlin that takes its time — the autumn market is the ideal opportunity to get to know this other Berlin.
The 2026 autumn market edition confirms the usual weekend format: Saturday and Sunday open market from early morning to afternoon, with a parallel stage and children's program. The focus is on the approximately 30 stalls with regional producers and craftspeople.
Exact opening hours and admission prices will be announced shortly before the date by the organizer — Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin. Those planning to spend several hours on site are ideally advised to combine the visit with a walk through the nearby Botanical Garden or a stop at the Domäne's courtyard café.
Detailed program and vendor list for 2026 will be published in early October on domaene-dahlem.de.
