Germany's first open-air plant market of the year — over 130 exhibitors on the historic farm estate
The Berliner Staudenmarkt originated in 1972 as a small event by the gardeners' association — today it is one of Germany's most renowned plant markets. It is organized by Berliner Staudenmarkt e.V., which organizes the market twice a year (spring and autumn). The spring edition at Domäne Dahlem is the larger and more important date — it is considered Germany's first major open-air plant market of the year and attracts hobby gardeners from all over the Berlin surrounding area as well as from Brandenburg and Northern Germany.
Over 130 exhibitors offer their range — predominantly family businesses and smaller nurseries from Germany. The range includes:
Domäne Dahlem in the Berlin district of Dahlem is a farm estate first mentioned in 1560, now an open-air museum with active organic farming. The plant market takes place between fields, orchards, animal pastures, and historic farm buildings — an unusually atmospheric market setting in the middle of the city. Those arriving by car park at the nearby Wertheimplatz and use the free "plant taxis" — small carts that bring purchases from the market to the car.
What distinguishes the plant market from a pure garden center is the opportunity to speak directly with the growers and family businesses. Anyone looking for a special plant for their shady garden or having soil problems will receive competent answers at the stand — from people who cultivate their varieties themselves. This makes the market an informal garden symposium.
Domäne Dahlem operates its own organic restaurant and several market stalls with regional cuisine. Children can visit the petting zoo, observe animals in the fields, or participate in the Domäne's educational workshop program.
The 2026 edition falls on the second weekend of April due to the early Easter. The organizer is Berliner Staudenmarkt e.V. in cooperation with Domäne Dahlem (Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin). Exhibitor registration ran in late autumn 2025; the final list of stands will be published shortly before the market on the association's website.
Both days have the same schedule: 9 am market opening, 6 pm closing. Those who wish to visit both days must pay admission twice. Plant taxis are free and transport purchases from the market to the parking spaces in the side streets or to the subway entrance (Dahlem-Dorf).
