Two-day summer festival of the Berlin-Heinersdorf Volunteer Fire Department — with youth fire department demonstrations, family program, and live music
Heinersdorf is a historic district in Berlin's Pankow borough, nestled between Weißensee, Französisch Buchholz, and Pankow. Once an independent municipality until 1920, Heinersdorf is characterized by a preserved village center with the 13th-century village church and the neighboring Panke nature reserve. The Heinersdorf Volunteer Fire Department is part of the Berlin Fire Department and serves the northeast of Pankow in addition to the professional fire brigade.
The Heinersdorf Fire Station at Romain-Rolland-Straße 105–107 serves as both an operational site and a club house. The summer festival is its most important annual public event — it seeks proximity to the public, recruits new members for the youth fire department, and finances part of its equipment with income from food and beverage sales. Unlike smaller FF festivals, the Heinersdorf event spans two days with clearly distinct profiles.
On Friday, June 5, 2026, the station opens from 5 PM for a relaxed evening kickoff until 10 PM with a bar, live music, and dancing. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the full program runs from 10 AM to 10 PM. Demonstrations by the Youth Fire Department (Berlin's systematic youth structure — children aged 10 and up, teenagers up to 18) will showcase exercises from fire protection and rescue training. In addition, there will be vehicle viewing (pumper truck, tanker truck), activity stations for children, a bouncy castle, face painting, a candy bar, and catering with sausages, steaks, and cake. In the evening, music and dancing.
With over 400,000 inhabitants, the Pankow borough is the most populous in Berlin. Despite its big-city dimensions, the district, particularly in its northern parts — Heinersdorf, Buchholz, Niederschönhausen, Karow — maintains a strong tradition of club festivals. Summer festivals organized by fire departments, schools, sports clubs, and allotment garden colonies structure the summer calendar and foster a sense of identity for residents beyond the anonymity of the big city.
The 2026 summer festival is, as usual, spread over two days with clearly distinct profiles. Friday evening serves as the kickoff — the station opens its clubhouse and outdoor area for a relaxed program with a bar, dancing, and music until 10 PM. Saturday then offers the complete family format: opening in the morning, youth fire department demonstrations in the afternoon (one of Berlin's exemplary structures for youth development), children's program and vehicle viewing in the afternoon, music and dancing in the evening.
Admission is completely free. Food and drinks are sold on-site at club prices. Donations for the Heinersdorf Volunteer Fire Department's equipment are welcome.
Heinersdorf Fire Station, Romain-Rolland-Straße 105–107, 13089 Berlin (Pankow borough, Heinersdorf district). Tram M2 to Pasedagplatz, approx. 5 minutes walk. Bus 156, 158. S-Bahn S2 Pankow or S+U Pankow, then tram. Public transport recommended.

Friday 5 PM–10 PM (kickoff with music and bar), Saturday 10 AM–10 PM (full program). Family-oriented during the day, with more of an adult program and dancing in the evening. If the fire department is called out during the festival, operations will briefly pause.
