Art, crafts, and live music in the park of Schönhausen Palace
Schönhausen Palace in Pankow is one of Berlin's most underrated palaces. Built in 1664, expanded in 1740 for Queen Elisabeth Christine (the estranged wife of Frederick the Great), it served as the seat of GDR heads of state after World War II, and is now a museum of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg. The palace park in the north of the Pankow district is a green oasis—and on one weekend in June, the venue for the Pankow Art Festival.
The concept: over 60 artists from Berlin and Brandenburg exhibit their works in open-air stalls around the palace. Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, textiles—all directly from the maker. Unlike commercial craft markets, the festival emphasizes art, not just souvenir production: a format that hovers between an art exhibition opening and a craft market.
With 415,000 inhabitants, Pankow is Berlin's most populous district and simultaneously one of its most culturally active—Prenzlauer Berg is part of it (Kulturbrauerei, Mauerpark, Kollwitzplatz), but also Weißensee with its art college and Niederschönhausen with its palace park. The Pankow Art Festival is one of the few festivals that explicitly positions northern Pankow—beyond the Prenzlauer Berg hype—as a cultural location.
On the weekend of June 13/14, 2026, the Pankow Art Festival opens the park of Schönhausen Palace for an art and culture weekend. Over 60 artists from Berlin and Brandenburg present their latest works in open-air stalls: paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, textiles—all directly from the maker. Local associations offer short palace tours, live music entertains on the main stage, and acrobatic performances liven up the program. The district office of Pankow and cultural initiatives from the Niederschönhausen neighborhood jointly support the festival.
According to the Pankow district office, the complete 2026 program will be published shortly before the festival on berlin.de. The framework for the weekend of June 13–14, 2026:
