NRW's largest open-air Pride festival on Fühlinger See with pop, schlager, and EDM on two stages
If you're in Cologne at the end of June and celebrating Pride, the Rainbow Festival is a must-attend. Held on the Regatta Island of Fühlinger See in the north of Cologne (Fühlingen district), it's the largest open-air LGBTQ+ festival in North Rhine-Westphalia. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the idyllic water sports island will transform into a festival landscape with two stages, up to 30,000 guests, and a clear statement for diversity and visibility.
The concept is based on a well-thought-out stage division. The Sunshine Stage is the pop and schlager stage with acts that inspire across generations: No Angels, Boney M., Vengaboys with their 90s hits, Marianne Rosenberg as a German schlager icon, Kamrad, Mia Julia for the Ballermann crowd, the local band Kasalla, Swedish star Omar Rudberg (known from 'Young Royals'), the synth-pop band Alphaville, and singer Mark Medlock. The Aqua Stage is all about electronic music: Felix Jaehn, David Puentez, the Berlin duo Gestört aber GeiL, HBz with trance edits, Lari Luke, and other DJs. Drag performances between sets, hosted by Olivia Jones, the well-known Hamburg drag queen, provide the queer show element.
The Fühlinger See is one of Cologne's largest recreational areas – seven artificial lakes, a water sports center, a regatta course (where rowing championships have been held), and extensive sunbathing lawns. The Regatta Island itself is a peninsula that has hosted major events for over two decades (including the former Summerjam Reggae Festival). For the Rainbow Festival, the island will be divided into festival zones: two main stages, a VIP area, food trucks, bars, and Pride stands from queer associations in the Cologne community.
The Rainbow Festival takes place as part of the Cologne CSD Week (ColognePride), which traditionally culminates in the CSD demonstration parade on the first Sunday in July. Cologne has been one of Germany's central Pride cities since the 1990s; the CSD attracts a million visitors. For several years, the Rainbow Festival has been the commercially organized open-air counterpart to the free street festival on Heumarkt – a curated festival experience with major acts and targeted production rather than a folk festival atmosphere.
Clear safety rules apply for a festival of this size: age 16+, ID required, no glass bottles, security checks at the entrance. Travel is environmentally friendly, as the ticket includes free access to the VRS/VRR network for the event day (S6, S11, U-Bahn 12, then shuttle bus to the lake). Inclusion and accessibility are taken seriously: wheelchair-accessible areas, a dedicated reusable cup deposit system, and an awareness team are part of the standard production.
Tickets start from €63 at the box office, with a special group offer: 6 tickets for the price of 5 ('6 for 5'). VIP tickets offer exclusive access, VIP parking, buffet, and drinks. Overnight packages with Cologne hotels can also be booked through the partner Travelcircus – advisable, as the CSD weekend fills the city.
The 2026 edition sets new standards for queer open-air festivals in NRW with its prominent lineup. Up to 30,000 guests are expected on the Regatta Island of Fühlinger See. The organizers have expanded capacities and emphasize the balance between pop mainstream (Boney M., Vengaboys, Marianne Rosenberg) and queer acts like Omar Rudberg, Mia Julia, and Kasalla.
The Aqua Stage bundles electronic music with star DJs like Felix Jaehn and David Puentez. Drag stars like Olivia Jones will host and provide the queer touch with show interludes between concerts. The festival is part of the ColognePride week, combining pure music show with the political message of Christopher Street Day.
Detailed set times will be published shortly before the festival on rainbowfestival.de.
