About Burgfest Schauenstein

The Burgfest Schauenstein is a two-day journey back in time to the Middle Ages around the castle of the Upper Franconian small town of Schauenstein. Organized by the Schlossfreunde Schauenstein (Friends of the Castle Schauenstein), the castle square transforms into a medieval market with jugglers, minstrels, craftsmen, medieval groups, and a Ferris wheel and carousel built entirely of wood. The highlight is the fire show on Saturday evening, when the entire castle complex is colorfully illuminated. The 4th edition will take place on August 1st and 2nd, 2026.

Medieval Spectacle in the Fichtelgebirge

The Burgfest Schauenstein was initiated in 2023 by the Schlossfreunde Schauenstein e.V. (Friends of the Castle Schauenstein Association) and has quickly become a firm fixture in the Upper Franconian summer event calendar. The venue is the Schlossplatz (castle square) around the castle of the same name in Schauenstein, a small town in the Hof district in the northern Fichtelgebirge mountains.

Program: Market, Crafts, Minstrels, Fire Show

Over the two festival days, there will be market stalls with historical crafts and artisanal goods, simply dressed camp life groups, minstrels, and jugglers, along with food and drinks from the medieval repertoire. Performances by the medieval groups Vielgestalt and Maleficius will accompany both days. For children, there is a hand-operated Ferris wheel and a children's carousel – both built entirely of wood. A historical screw press mints replicas of the Schauensteiner Groschen from 1622 as souvenirs.

Fire Show and Illuminated Castle Complex

The highlight on Saturday evening is a fire show with colorful illumination of the entire castle complex. The market is open on Saturday from 3 PM until approximately midnight, and all day Sunday until the early evening.

Schauenstein and the Hof District
