A Heavy Music Odyssey in the Bremer Schlachthof
When the Hellseatic Festival takes over the Bremer Schlachthof, it's not about fast riffs and grand gestures, but about intensity, density, and devotion. The festival, brought to life by musicians from Bremen, consciously curates its program tightly: dark, atmospheric, and avant-garde sounds with a certain edge that defies categorization. Post-metal meets drone, sludge meets black metal, doom meets experimental sound art – a heavy music odyssey that lives up to its name.
Hellseatic explicitly positions itself as a counter-concept to the classic metal festival. The focus is on creating a space where music, aesthetics, and conviction resonate together. Tolerance and solidarity are not empty phrases, but part of the program: tiered ticket models, solidarity tickets, and participation tickets ensure that as many people as possible can attend, regardless of financial constraints. This attitude attracts an audience that values openness and uncompromising artistic integrity equally.
The Schlachthof cultural center in the Findorff district, with its brick charm and distinctive water tower, is one of Bremen's most atmospheric venues. The raw industrial spaces amplify the physical impact of the music – here, volume becomes an experience you feel in your chest. Over two days, Hellseatic brings around two dozen acts to the stage, including internationally acclaimed names like Crippled Black Phoenix, Author & Punisher, Psychonaut, and Temple Fang, alongside local Bremen and North German representatives of the scene.
For those wanting to discover the loud, dark, and experimental side of the Hanseatic city, Hellseatic offers a festival that prioritizes artistic integrity over mainstream conventions – supported by a community that understands music as a shared experience.
Over two festival days, May 1st and 2nd, 2026, Hellseatic will present around two dozen bands at the Schlachthof cultural center. The first and subsequent waves of bands include acts such as Crippled Black Phoenix, Author & Punisher, Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Psychonaut, Temple Fang, Eremit, Cranial, Pothamus, Coltaine, Sundance, and numerous other representatives of the international and North German heavy music scene. The program is deliberately curated to be dense and stylistically diverse.
Two days of uncompromising, dark, and avant-garde heavy music at the Schlachthof cultural center. Doors open/Start on Friday, May 1st, at 3:30 PM. Performances will take place on three stages: Turbinenhalle (main stage), Magazinkeller, and Magazinboden.
The complete running order with stages and times for each day will be published on hellseatic.de (Timetable).
The Schlachthof cultural center is located at Findorffstraße 51 in the Findorff district, a few minutes' walk from Bremen's main train station (Hauptbahnhof). It's about a ten-minute walk from the station, making it ideal for environmentally friendly travel by train or tram.
Advance tickets start at around €70 plus fees. Solidarity and participation tickets are also offered to lower the financial barrier to entry.
The festival takes place primarily indoors and is designed as a weather-independent indoor event. Current information on the lineup and tickets can be found at hellseatic.de.
