Dance and Theatre for Young Audiences
The KinderKulturFestival Sturmwarnung brings contemporary dance and theatre to Bremer Schaulust in one day. Invited by the Landesverband TanzSzene Bremen e.V., the network and voice of the city's independent dance scene, a dense programme is created over several hours, specifically aimed at children and families in the state of Bremen. This format introduces performing arts to young spectators long before they attend traditional theatre themselves.
Schaulust on the Güterbahnhof-Areal
The venue is Schaulust, Bremen's production and event space for theatre, music, dance, circus, show, and performance. It is located directly next to Bremen's main train station on the approximately 36,000 square metre Güterbahnhof-Areal – a central hub for Bremen's independent art and cultural scene since 1997. Around 300 artists, creatives, and cultural practitioners work on the premises in about 100 studios, rehearsal, and production rooms. Schaulust is not a traditional guest performance venue but a professional stage for self-determined projects of the independent scene. This special setting, shaped by industrial architecture and creative energy, noticeably influences the festival's character.
Art to Experience and Participate In
Performances from dance and theatre are offered, as well as formats that directly involve the young audience. The focus is on the idea of bringing children into contact with performing arts at an early age and on an equal footing – sparking curiosity, encouraging movement, and being accessible. Instead of just watching, children are invited to try things out, participate, and gain their own impressions. There is an open call for artists for the programme beforehand, ensuring that each edition has its own unique signature.
Independent Scene in the Hanseatic City
The independent dance and theatre scene is a vibrant part of Bremen's culture. With the KinderKulturFestival Sturmwarnung, the Landesverband TanzSzene Bremen creates a fixed date in the Hanseatic city's cultural calendar, through which this scene specifically opens up to the youngest audiences. Anyone looking for a special cultural day out with children in Bremen will find an unusual and heartfelt offer here.
