North Germany's largest folk festival on the Heiligengeistfeld
For generations, the Heiligengeistfeld in St. Pauli has been the permanent address of the Hamburger DOM. The city hosts its folk festival here three times a year: Spring, Summer, and Winter DOM. The Sommer DOM is the longest and most visited edition – exceptionally extended to five weeks in 2026, instead of the usual four. This gives you more flexibility to not cram your visit into a single weekend evening.
Over 200 showman businesses set up their rides, food stalls, and game booths each time. Classics like the Wilde Maus, the Crazy Mouse Coaster, haunted houses, and the distinctive Ferris wheel with a view of the Elbphilharmonie are among them. In addition, new attractions appear every season – high-speed loopings, mobile VR experiences, or the ever-astonishing pendulum rides. Culinarically, the spectrum ranges from candied almonds, Schmalzkuchen, and Lübecker Berliners to bratwurst, crêpes, and cocktails in the beer tent.
The weekly grand fireworks display every Friday at 10:30 PM is the secret star of the DOM. For twenty minutes, the sky above St. Pauli comes alive – best viewed from the Bismarck Monument or directly from the Heiligengeistfeld. The organizers have slightly adjusted it in 2026 due to noise protection: on Fridays and Saturdays, the DOM closes at midnight out of consideration for the residents of the surrounding residential areas.
Every Wednesday, Family Day lures with reduced prices on rides and stalls – the ideal opportunity to stroll through the DOM with children without the weekend hustle and bustle. Admission to the festival grounds is always free; payment is made exclusively at the individual stands and rides.
In 2026, the Sommer DOM will run for 38 consecutive days – from Friday, July 24 to Sunday, August 30. That's one week longer than usual. The opening is, as always, on the first Friday, followed by grand fireworks around midnight.
More than 200 showman businesses are registered. Traditional classics such as the large Ferris wheel with Elbe view, the haunted houses, and the Crazy Mouse Coaster are expected, along with new attractions each season. The official list of attractions for 2026 will be published shortly before the opening on hamburg.de.
The Heiligengeistfeld is classically divided into several areas: at the front, the large rides (looping and pendulum rides), in the middle the game stalls and food stands, and at the back the Ferris wheel and beer tent. The exact allocation and the plan of individual showmen are traditionally made available a few days before the opening on the official DOM website.
