38th Citizens' Festival – when Bengalis offer curries, Turks offer Gözleme, and Greeks offer Sirtaki
The Offenbacher Mainuferfest is Offenbach's most diverse public event. In 2026, the 38th edition will take place on the weekend of June 20th/21st, transforming Mainstraße, Kulturkarree, and the area around the Büsingpalais into an international festival mile.
Offenbach am Main is statistically Germany's most multicultural city: Around 60% of its residents have a migration background, and over 150 nationalities live in the city on the Main. This diversity is showcased in full splendor at the Mainuferfest: "When Greeks exuberantly dance Sirtaki, Bengalis prepare spicy lamb curry, and Turks make Gözleme," as the city itself describes it.
Approximately 100 Offenbach clubs – from sports, culture, religion, and regions of origin – operate stalls, present dances, cook specialties from their countries, and introduce themselves. In 2025/2026, among others, Bengali, Eritrean, Greek, Serbian, and Turkish communities will be represented, complemented by German sports clubs, the chess club, and initiatives like the Digital Retro Park, which celebrates computer history.
The festival grounds extend between the Büsingpalais, Herrnstraße, Kirchgasse, and Mainstraße. Several stages offer live jazz, folklore, and children's theater. Chess tournaments are held in the chess area, and crafts are made on the family islands.
Unlike many city festivals, the Mainuferfest is explicitly a Bürgerfest (citizens' festival): Clubs, not large commercial stall operators, provide the offerings. This is its charm – and clearly distinguishes the festival from the Frankfurt skyline opposite.
The Mainuferfest traditionally takes place on the banks of the Main, on Mainstraße, and in the Kulturkarree. With a view of the Frankfurt skyline opposite, the festival gains an unusual big-city atmosphere: While skyscrapers glow on the other side, Offenbach celebrates its own, much more diverse identity. The close combination of clubs, families, migration, and neighborhood tradition makes the Mainuferfest one of the most authentic city festivals in the Rhine-Main region.
Two days of festivities around Mainstraße and Kulturkarree with Offenbach's clubs from sports, culture, origin communities, and religious initiatives. Specialties from Bengal, Eritrea, Greece, Serbia, Turkey, and many other countries, plus jazz concerts and folk dances.
