One of Germany's largest flea markets on Hamburg's St. Pauli Heiligengeistfeld – with an international street food festival
When Sprinters, VW Buses, and trailers roll onto Heiligengeistfeld on a Sunday morning, unloading their treasures onto blankets, folding tables, and clothes racks, one of the largest flea markets in the state of Hamburg begins. With over 800 stalls spread across an area the size of 6 football fields, the Heiligengeistfeld flea market rivals the scale of major events in Berlin and Munich. Hamburg's traditional flea market locations like Flohschanze or Eidelstedter Bauernmarkt are significantly smaller.
The assortment is deliberately broad: vintage and second-hand clothing, furniture and design classics, vinyl and CDs, used bicycles, books and comics, antiques, curiosities, as well as handmade products and creative new goods. Unlike purely tourist-oriented markets, Heiligengeistfeld is a true market for collectors, bargain hunters, and browsers – most stalls are run by private individuals from Hamburg who are decluttering twice a year.
The street food festival runs concurrently on the west side of the grounds: crispy pizza and burgers, plus African, Asian, and Latin American cuisine – Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Vietnamese Banh Mi, Ethiopian Injera, Mexican Tacos, Indian Curries, Falafel stands. Vegetarian and vegan options are represented in every culinary direction. Beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks complete the offering.
Heiligengeistfeld is a large open space between Reeperbahn, Feldstraße, and the Millerntor Stadium – in the St. Pauli quarter (Hamburg-Mitte district). This same area traditionally hosts the Hamburger DOM (three times a year) and is considered one of the largest inner-city open spaces in Germany. Its location directly next to the FC St. Pauli stadium makes the market a natural complement to the Reeperbahn weekend program.
Two editions are scheduled for 2026: Sunday, June 28, 2026 (Summer Edition) and Saturday, September 19, 2026 (Autumn Edition). Both dates run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, regardless of the weather. Admission €6. Travel by U-Bahn Feldstraße (U3) directly at the entrance.
The 2026 season continues the established concept: twice a year, Heiligengeistfeld transforms into an XXL flea market with an attached street food festival. Stall registration is via the organizer's website, with stall fees starting at €14 per meter (standard) or €19 per meter including parking.
The two dates cater to different profiles: the June edition benefits from summer weather and long days, while the September edition often coincides with the Oktoberfest/Reeperbahn Festival weekend, attracting a correspondingly international crowd. Both events take place regardless of the weather.
